These large format cigarette cards of paintings by Arthur Wardle were issued by John Player in 1933 as a series of 25 breeds. Each original, vintage card has been mounted on black card with an off white double mount in a custom-made reclaimed wood frame (to complete the vintage vibe) - hand painted and waxed. Each frame has its own pattern of knots, dinks, scratches, nail holes, wonky edges and aged patina. Fitted with crystal clear acrylic ’glass’ and ready to hang. Size: 18.5 x 17 cm
Arthur Wardle (1864-1949) was well known for his detailed paintings of dogs that perfectly capture the character of each breed. It is believed that he was self taught and at the age of just 16 he had his first work accepted for exhibition at the Royal Academy in 1880, where over his lifetime he exhibited 113 works.
Please note: As these cards are original, stock is limited, therefore it is only possible to order a maximum of one of any particular breed.
